Round 7 Part 1

Round 7 Match Report Part 1.
The Seagulls snatched the narrowest of victories from the jaws of defeat when they goaled after the siren from a set shot on the 50m arc. Once again jumped by a pacy and well-drilled Gators outfit, the visitors trailed almost all night in their first ever outing under lights. Inaccurate kicking at goal was costly, but our loss of focus at times was of more concern, allowing Fountain Gate to get some quick run-ons, which stretched their lead.
Despite a poor first half, Williamstown found themselves only a few points behind at the end of the third term. The final stanza was a blockbuster, with the lead changing several times. The Gators looked to have the match under control until a last-minute surge resulting from a ruck tap in the centre saw Julian Brooks mark on the 50, moments before the siren sounded. A long low kick narrowly cleared the pack on the goal line and the Willy players rushed in to celebrate, like Seagulls on a chip.
Fountain Gate players were naturally disappointed, but they have established themselves as true contenders in A Grade, and look set for Premiership glory at this level in the near future.
The Next Academy medals, for the best under 23 player on each team, were won by Kai Eade (Williamstown) and Tycen Heeger (Fountain Gate). The medal presentations were planned by club Presidents, Anthony Scolyer and Rob Klemm, and awarded by FIDA founder Peter Ryan OAM. Anthony and Rob were also able to announce their appointments as Co-Head Coaches of the Team Vic Inclusion team to play at the national AFL Open being held in November at La Trobe University, Bundoora, Victoria.
Bus transport to this game was again proudly supported by Bendigo Community Bank Altona and Laverton.
